As the 2017 League tennis season comes to an end, once again the Club can look back on a summer of mixed fortunes.
With just one match left to play the A team look certain to finish a commendable sixth out of ten in the Wharfedale League mixed doubles first division, with Chloe Robinson ranked fourth highest player in the division and Tom Horsfall our highest ranked man at 12th.
The B team were again involved in a tight struggle to maintain their second division status and after finishing one place from the bottom now have to wait to see whether Pudsey’s mid-season decision to withdraw their team from this division means that they avoid the drop. Our top ranking players in this division were Dermott McDaid, at 35th, and Jo Lowry at 49th.
Meanwhile the C team, having propped up the third division for most of the season, climbed off bottom spot with a victory over fellow strugglers Heaton C in their final match of the season. The visiting McDougalls – Alastair and Julie – were our top ranked players in this division, with Lou Ellison and Janet Lassey the best of the ‘regulars’.
Social tennis continues at the club throughout the winter with sessions on Sunday mornings as well as Mondays and Fridays with Mon-Fris There is also indoor tennis at Gig School – see separate item – and we are also planning to take part for the first time in a mid-week vets winter league – more details soon.
